Controls and directs motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic in locations as assigned by the Traffic Bureau. Uses arm and hand signals or manually operates traffic lights. May make reports of accidents or unsafe traffic situations. Must have the ability to report to various assigned locations throughout the City. Other duties may be assigned.
Maintain the quarters and cells in a state of cleanliness and order.
Repairs and maintains electric, diesel, and gasoline municipal trucks.
Examines all permit applications and related documents and information, including plans, to construct, reconstruct, alter, repair, remove or demolish a building or structure; or to change the use or occupancy of a building or structure; or to install or alter any equipment for which provision is made or the installation of which is regulated by 780 CMR (State Building Code) and The Zoning Ordinances of The City of Lowell. Inspects buildings under the provisions of General Laws. Enforces the provisions of the building code and local zoning laws. Examines or approves plans for new buildings; the repair, alteration, and safety conditions of existing buildings. Inspects egress facilities of buildings.
When the Plumbing & Gas Fitting Inspector is unable to work, due to scheduled time-off, the On-Call Plumbing & Gas Fitting Inspector performs the work related to the administration, interpretation, inspection, and enforcement of Massachusetts Building Code and other relevant rules & regulations for the duration of the Plumbing & Gas Fitting Inspector’s absence.
On-Call Wire Inspector
When the Wire Inspector is unable to work, due to scheduled time-off, the Interim Wire Inspector performs the work related to the administration, interpretation, inspection, and enforcement of Massachusetts Electrical Code and other relevant rules & regulations for the duration of the Wire Inspector’s absence.
Public Health Nurse- Clinic
Responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and management of a public health program for the City of Lowell. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, case management and surveillance of reportable and communicable diseases; as well as identifying disease trends in order to initiate control measures which may include coordinating and organizing public health clinics.
Maintains grounds of industrial, commercial, or public property. Salary: $11.50 per hour (min) to $12.50 per hour (max); 40 hr/week
Under direction of Head Mechanic, assists in supervision and participates in the overall maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant and its related support functions.
Operates any motor driven equipment including trucks, tractors, road rollers, rotary snow fighters, tar distributors, road sweepers, leaf loaders, road flushers, etc.
Loads and unloads trucks; picks up and hauls materials, plows and sands streets, sidewalks and roadways, parking lots, as well as Parks & Recreation, and Cemeteries equipment in that grade.
Under the direction and supervision of the Commissioner and other designated personnel;
Supervises and works with a small group (normally ranging from 3-10) of workers at a lower skill level and/or laborers
Performs duties in the construction, maintenance and operation of water systems and distribution systems throughout the city.
