How to Negotiate Job Offers

Does the thought of negotiating a job offer make your stomach upset? After all of the haggling, is it usually unclear if you agreed to a good deal? What if negotiation was about maximizing value instead of winning, collaborating instead of competing, and meeting needs instead of haggling? Well, it is. Seasoned Negotiation Trainer, Executive Coach, and former Mediator Tad Mayer will give an overview of how to make job offer negotiations make sense. You will take away:

Guest Speaker: Tad Mayer

Tad Mayer is president of Career Negotiations. As an Effectiveness Coach, he helps improve performance and rescue inspiration. Tad works with mid-sized company executives, directors and managers, with small business owners, and with nonprofit leaders to identify roadblocks and overcome them. He also coaches individuals in career development and job seeking. He has co-authored the forthcoming book Own the Job Hunt. Tad uses the OJH model to create relief, hope, direction, and results in the form of fulfilling trajectories for people in transition and frustrated professionals feeling stuck in their careers.

As an adjunct professor, Tad has taught negotiation courses at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University and has guest lectured at the Questrom School of Business at Boston University and MIT Sloan. As a mediator working with nonprofits, small business partnerships, and housing organizations, he has assisted parties to negotiate and resolve conflicts. Tad is a member of the MWI, Habitus Incorporated, and Talk Support panels of negotiation trainers and coaches. He has worked with clients including General Motors, Coca-Cola, BMW of North America, Tufts University, The Fletcher School, Harvard Law School, Program on Negotiation at HLS; Boston College Law School, Suffolk University Law School, New England Law Boston, and WilmerHale.
Tad has been quoted in online venues like USNews and his writing has been featured in books such as Money Talks: 100 Strategies to Master Tricky Conversations about Money. He has an MBA from The Tuck School at Dartmouth College, a BS in Communication Studies from Northwestern University, and completed courses in Negotiation, Dispute Resolution, and Mediation at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. Tad is a Co-Active Coach trained by The Coaches Training Institute (CTI).
