The MassHire Lowell Career Center is part of the Massachusetts One-Stop Career Center System serving the communities of Billerica, Chelmsford, Dracut, Dunstable, Lowell, Tewksbury, Tyngsborough and Westford. The Lowell Career Center operates under the direction of the City of Lowell and is chartered by the MassHire Greater Lowell Workforce Board. Through this model, local employment and training services have been consolidated to build a strong workforce development system.

THE MASSHIRE GREATER LOWELL WORKFORCE BOARD

The MassHire Greater Lowell Workforce Board oversees a wide range of workforce development activities, representing a multitude of federal and state funding streams. These include Youth, Adult and Dislocated Worker programs funded by the Workforce Investment Act, The MassHire Lowell Career Center, School to Career Initiatives, DOE Adult Basic Education Activities, The Workforce Training Fund, and other specially funded workforce development activities.

The MassHire Greater Lowell Workforce Board is one of 16 Workforce Boards throughout Massachusetts, servicing the communities of Billerica, Chelmsford, Dracut, Lowell, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro, Dunstable and Westford. We are charged with overseeing and implementing workforce development initiatives throughout the Workforce Investment Area. Board members offer a wide range of skills and experience and include representatives from local businesses, educational Institutions, Community Based Organizations, labor unions, governmental agencies, economic development bodies, and Chambers of Commerce.

The mission of the Career Center is to work closely with the business community to identify and meet their employment needs and to provide job seekers with a wide range of job search and training services.

The services of the Career Center of Lowell are available to employers, job seekers and youth.

The Department of Transitional Assistance assists and empowers low-income individuals and families to meet their basic needs, improve their quality of life, and achieve long term economic self-sufficiency. DTA serves one in eight residents of the Commonwealth with direct economic assistance (cash benefits) and food assistance (SNAP benefits), as well as workforce training opportunities.

Secure Jobs

Gainful employment is critical to a family’s ability to maintain housing stability.  The Secure Jobs program helps people achieve the long term objective of self-sufficiency and permanent housing.  Since its inception, the program has helped more than 1oo people with the steps needed to secure long-term employment.
