Things you need to know

Starting May 6, 2025, you’ll use Unemployment Services for Workers to apply for unemployment insurance benefits and manage your claim. The new system offers:

  • Expanded self-service options
  • Support in English and Spanish (Español)
  • Access from your smartphone, tablet, or computer

Below is information to help you prepare for the transition.

Service Outage

DUA’s online services will be unavailable from Thursday, May 1 at 5:00 PM EDT until Tuesday, May 6 at 8:00 AM EDT. During this time, you will not be able to:

  • Access your UI Online account
  • File a claim or request weekly benefits

Benefit payments for the week of May 4, 2025 through May 10, 2025 will be delayed, with the earliest payments going out on Thursday, May 8, 2025. This delay is similar to what occurs during holidays when DUA is closed.

Work Search Requirement

All claimants must complete at least three work search activities each week to remain eligible for benefits. Beginning May 6, 2025, you’ll be required to report your work search activities each week when you request benefits.

MyMassGov Login

The new system uses MyMassGov, a secure, single sign-on service. Starting May 6, 2025:

  • You’ll log in using your MyMassGov account
  • If you don’t have one, the system will guide you through creating one
  • If you do have one, you’ll be prompted to link your MyMassGov and Unemployment Insurance for Workers accounts

Get a head start. Create a MyMassGov account today.

What you can do now to prepare

Complete these steps on or before Thursday, May 1, 2025, to ensure a smooth transition.
  1. Log in to UI Online and confirm your information is correct (email, phone number, mailing address, and security question).
  2. Make sure you have your own email address. You’ll need one to access the new system. If needed, create a free email account (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook).
  3. Download important letters from UI Online. After the switch, UI Online will no longer be available, and you won’t be able to access these documents easily.

Transition timeline

What if I lose my job before the new system goes live? Where should I apply?

If you need to file a new unemployment claim:

  • Use UI Online to apply until May 1, 2025
  • Use the new Unemployment Services for Workers portal beginning May 6, 2025

Will my benefit payment be delayed during the upgrade week?

Yes. Because of the system upgrade, benefit payments for the week ending May 3, 2025 will be delayed. The earliest you’ll receive payment for the week of May 4–10 is Thursday, May 8, 2025. This timeline is similar to holiday-related delays.

Will deadlines to certify for benefits or file an appeal be extended?

Yes. DUA will monitor the transition closely and may adjust deadlines as needed. Our goal is to ensure a smooth and fair transition for everyone.

Will fact-finding deadlines change during the transition?

Yes. For deadlines between May 1–14, 2025, DUA is adding 10 extra days to respond. You’ll see the updated due date in your online account. After that, standard deadlines apply.

Will my information from UI Online carry over to the new system?

Yes. If you have an active unemployment claim, all your existing information will transfer automatically. Once you log in to the new system on or after May 6, 2025, you’ll see your claim details in your new account.

Will I be able to access the new system on my phone?

Yes. The new system is mobile-friendly. You can access your account from any device—smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Will the new system make it easier to check my claim status?

Yes. The new system gives you more visibility into the status of your claim and payments. You’ll be able to track updates and see real-time information about your weekly certifications and eligibility.
