Community Liaisons Wanted

Apply to earn $25/hr as a Community Liaison helping your community’s voice be heard regarding new improvements coming to St. Louis Sponge Park (the park behind Top Donut). The improvements may include new park amenities like a splash pad and ball courts, “spongey landscapes” that reduce flooding when it rains, and public art.

What a Community  Liaison Does:

Community liaisons spread awareness and gather input that will guide the design of improvements to the St. Louis Sponge Park. Community liaisons are responsible for:

  • Accessing community gathering spaces like block parties, beauty salons, churches and temples, and social media accounts
  • lnforming community of what’s happening through flyers and conversation
  • Exciting community about the promise of the project
  • Collecting input from community by taking field notes on input forms provided

Community liaisons work on a part-time, seasonal basis. The position entails 10-20 hours/week of work beginning in July 2025 and concluding in April 2026. Community Liaisons will work at the direction of a community engagement manager at Agency Landscape + Planning, a local design firm that is contracted with the City of Lowell to conduct community outreach. Community  Liaisons will be responsible for tracking their hours and accomplishments, and submitting monthly invoices to the community  engagement manager by the 8th of each month. Community Liaisons will be paid on a monthly basis at   a rate of $25/hour.

Who a Community Liaison  Is

Community Liaisons love their community . They care about connecting their community to resources and amplifying their community ‘s voice in how the City of Lowell invests in its neighborhoods. Community liaisons are socially connected and are skilled at  bringing people together towards common   goals.

Community Liaisons:

  • Can speak fluently in English
  • Can speak fluently in Spanish, Khmer, or Portuguese
  • Possess a valid social security number
  • Belong to a social network in Lowell, preferable in Centralville
  • Have prior experience in community organizing, electoral organizing, or advocacy work
  • Have existing knowledge of community gathering places in Lowell neighborhoods, especially Centralville
  • Are interested in civic engagement, urban planning, and/or landscape architecture
